Types of Meditation

There are types of meditations practices by the people around the world. But here are three most used types of meditations.

1. Transcendental Meditation

Transcendental Meditation is a simple, effortless technique that involves the use of a mantra—a specific sound or word—repeated silently to aid in focusing the mind. Unlike other forms of meditation, TM does not require concentration or effortful control. Instead, it encourages the mind to settle naturally, effortlessly transcending ordinary thinking to access a state of profound restfulness and clarity.

For better understanding, Bob Roth a specialist in transcendental meditation has given a perfect analogy.

Think that you’re in a small boat in the middle of the ocean, suddenly a set of huge ocean waves came at you, now you are dangerously riding on the waves to get past it, to get to the other side. Therefore, constant anxiety, concerning, constant pressure on you to steer the boat and getting past the waves. Basically, your mind is chaotic only because you’re riding on a number of chaotic huge waves.

But if you look into the cross section of the ocean. The size of the waves or the ripple at the surface is very small compared to the Hugh depth of the ocean which is calm and stable in the flow of ocean water beneath the surface a certain a small depth.

The mind is like this, that is at the surface you are dealing with the regular work life of constant responsibilities, duties etc. What transcendental meditation do is getting you to the depths of the ocean, here which means getting you into a more relaxing state of the mind, calm and stillness state.

It involves bringing one's awareness to the sensations of the breath, bodily sensations, thoughts, and emotions as they arise, without getting caught up in judgments or reactions. By cultivating a non-judgmental and accepting attitude, individuals develop a heightened sense of self-awareness and an ability to respond skillfully to life's challenges. This practice is well used for reduction of pain and stresses caused by the outside and inside events in one’s life.

Tai Chi meditation, often referred to as moving meditation, combines the principles of mindfulness and meditation with the fluid movements and postures of Tai Chi. It emphasizes the cultivation of a calm and focused mind while engaging in a series of slow, deliberate movements. Tai Chi meditation involves bringing full awareness to the body, breath, and present moment, fostering a deep sense of relaxation, balance, and inner peace.

Tai Chi meditation centers on the concept of "qi" or vital energy, which flows through the body's meridian channels. By practicing the graceful and fluid movements of Tai Chi, individuals harmonize their physical and mental energies, fostering a state of balance and well-being. The deliberate movements, combined with conscious breathing, help release tension, improve circulation, and enhance the body's natural healing abilities.
